While San Luis Obispo is the largest and most central city in the county, each of the surrounding towns has its own distinct identity.  To the south you will enjoy the Five Cities: Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande, Oceano, and Shell Beach.  Beautiful avilaweb.jpgAvila Beach graces the coast just south of San Luis Obispo.  Further north along the coast are Los Osos / Baywood Park, Morro Bay, Cayucos, Harmony, and Cambria.  Moving inland from San Luis Obispo, you'll find Santa Margarita, Atascadero, Templeton, Paso Robles, and San Miguel as you head north.

For parents of school-age kids, visit SLO County Office of Education or Schools K-12.  We also have two institutions for higher education in the County.  San Luis Obispo is home to California Polytechnic State University, or Cal Poly, as it's affectionately called.  Our community college, Cuesta, offers classes in two locations: North County and South County.

When it comes to recreation, it will be impossible to enumerate all the wonderful options at our disposal here in SLO County, but here is a brief outline:  We have the beautiful Lake Nacimiento and Lake San Antonio, Santa Margarita Lake, and Lopez Lake.

The region is famous for its hot springs: Enjoy a healing soak at Avila Hot Springs or River Oaks Hot Springs & Spa

Golf lovers will have their pick of 14 courses, among them Sea Pines Golf Resort, Dairy Creek,  Hunter Ranch Golf Course, The Links at Vista del HombrePaso Robles Golf Club, Avila Beach Golf Resort, the "Poor Man's Pebble Beach", and San Luis Obispo.
